A water-soluble vitamin is important for healthy skin, teeth, bones, and blood vessels. It is found especially in citrus fruits, tomatoes, potatoes, and green leafy vegetables.
A deficiency of vitamin C in the diet causes scurvy. Also called ascorbic acid.
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is one of the water-soluble vitamins which means that it is readily excreted in the urine and must be replenished on a daily basis.
Vitamin C is essential for the formation of collagen and consequently plays a major role in processes that are dependent on collagen production in the body such as connective tissue, cartilage, bone as well as blood vessel walls. it is therefore indispensable for the healing of wounds and the union of fractures.
Vitamin C is important in certain vital functions of the body such a carbohydrate and protein metabolism and cellular oxidation. Vitamin C is also required for optimal protection against environmental assaults such as bacterial toxins and free-radicals, and for survival under stress such as resistance to infections and severe trauma. These stressors can vary on a daily basis and consequently the requirement for Vitamin C changes constantly. Vitamin C is generally in short supply in our diets as it is easily lost in food refinement processes and consequently needs to be supplemented on a regular basis.

DIRECTIONS
To determine how much Vitamin C should be taken each day the so-called "bowel tolerance" technique should be followed.
This technique is based on the principle that the presence of a concentrated substance, such as Vitamin C, in the intestine attracts water from the surrounding cells, thereby loosening the stool and producing diarrhoea.
Diarrhoea is thus only produced when there is excess Vitamin C present in the intestine, which represents the Vitamin C that has not been absorbed by the cells. In other words, diarrhoea only starts when you have exceeded the level of Vitamin C your body requires at that particular moment.
The optimal level of Vitamin C to take is just before this bowel tolerance effect takes place i.e when the diarrhoea causing level is reached. This procedure should be followed every day.
